Portrait for a rainy day.
I painted my sister, Madeleine Brissenden, one afternoon. My intention was to capture the depth of her personality and the sense of who she is. Unlike other paintings where I aim for realism, in this I wanted to focus on the character of the brush strokes. Portraiture is more than a perfected representation of a person's image. Portraiture can be a way of explaining the sense of a person beyond their appearance.
